Veiligheid

How secure is Veault?

Veault is built with security as its foundation. We use end-to-end encryption and a zero-knowledge architecture, which means your vault is encrypted right on your device before it ever reaches our servers.

We cannot read your data, see your password, or access the contents of your vault at any time.

Even if someone were to gain access to our servers, your data remains completely inaccessible without the password that only you know.

How strong is the encryption of my Vault?

Veault uses AES-256 encryption — one of the strongest and most proven encryption standards used worldwide by banks, governments, and security services. Your vault is encrypted locally on your device before anything is stored or uploaded.

In addition, we use strong PBKDF2 key derivation, making 'brute-force' attacks practically impossible. Even with modern supercomputers, cracking a password would take billions of years.

How does choosing a password work?

At the end of the process, you choose a personal password to lock and encrypt your digital vault permanently. This password is essential: without it, your vault cannot be opened — by anyone, including us.

By default, we suggest a strong and user-friendly password based on the Diceware method: a combination of six random words that are easy to remember, but extremely hard to guess. If you prefer to choose your own password, that is of course no problem.

Please note: Your password is not stored anywhere. Not by us, and not inside your vault. It is therefore crucial that you remember it well or share it securely with someone you trust. If you lose it, the contents of the vault can no longer be accessed.

Why does Veault upload my vault to the cloud?

We upload your vault to our secure cloud environment to ensure your loved ones always have access to it — even if you lose your own copy. This cloud version is just as secure as the local version: the file is encrypted with your password and completely unreadable to us or anyone else without that password.

What if Veault gets hacked?

At Veault, everything revolves around security. That's why we take the security of our own systems extremely seriously and enforce strict data storage protocols. But we designed Veault so that even in the unlikely event of a hack on our servers, your data remains safe.

Veault uses a zero-knowledge encryption architecture: your vault is encrypted on your own device with a password that only you know, before anything goes to our servers. We therefore have no access to the contents of your vault, and we do not store your password. Even if someone gets hold of the encrypted files, they are completely unreadable without your password.

Cloudopslag

Informatie over hoe en waar uw versleutelde Veault veilig wordt opgeslagen in de cloud.
Are there extra costs associated with cloud storage?

No. Statistics show that relying solely on local storage for sensitive data poses too great a risk of data loss. Cloud storage is therefore an essential part of our philosophy and forms the foundation of our product.

Who has access to my vault in the cloud?

Only you and your designated trusted contacts.

Where are Veault's servers located?

Our cloud storage is hosted on highly secure servers within the European Union and complies with GDPR regulations.

How long is my vault kept in the cloud?

That depends on the subscription plan you choose. For recurring subscriptions, the vault remains available online as long as your membership is active.

If you choose Lifetime access, you will have lifelong access to your Veault. We use a dedicated data fund to guarantee that your vault remains available for decades. You can download or request the deletion of your encrypted vault file at any time.

Toegang tot de kluis

Hoe u en de door u aangewezen personen toegang krijgen tot de versleutelde Veault wanneer de tijd rijp is.
Who will ultimately be able to access my vault?

Only the people you have designated in advance as trusted contacts. You decide who they are, and you can modify or revoke this choice at any time. No one else can request or gain access.

How do I designate a trusted contact?

Through your Veault dashboard, you can easily invite someone as a trusted contact. You select who it is, set any conditions if needed, and the system generates an Access Document with a unique key and clear instructions. This document grants your trusted contact access later, but only when the release process is activated. This keeps your vault safe until it is truly needed.

When do my trusted contacts gain access to my vault?

Only once an access request has been submitted and the process has been fully completed. This happens, for example, after a waiting period during which you can block a request, or after verification of an official death certificate. Until that point, your vault remains completely locked.

Do I need to share my password with my trusted contacts?

No, with Veault Access they do not need to know your password. They use the secret key from the Access Document and follow the release process. Once access is granted, they can open the vault securely — without your login credentials.

Juridisch

Belangrijke overwegingen omtrent juridische aspecten van uw digitale nalatenschap.
Is Veault a legally valid will?

No. Veault is not a replacement for a notarized will. It is a personal digital legacy vault that allows you to record important information, wishes, and memories.

For the distribution of assets or formal legal matters, we always recommend drafting a will through a certified notary.

Can I use Veault as a supplement to my will?

Absolutely. Veault is ideally suited as a supplement to your will. Where a will focuses on the formal distribution of your assets, Veault helps you organize your digital life, provide practical instructions, and leave behind personal messages.

Furthermore, Veault is easier to update than a will, making it simpler to keep financial details and login information up to date.

Together, a will and Veault form a powerful combination.

Is my digital vault legally recognized?

The contents of your vault can be legally valuable, for instance as an indication of intentions or practical guidance for loved ones. However, only an official will has legally binding force. View Veault as a secure place for supplementary information — not as a legal document.
